| Harvey's Point Bluestack Challenge 2011 Participants in the Harvey's Point Bluestack Challenge 2011 were given a rousing send off by local TV 3 celebrity Noel Cunningham early Saturday morning June 18th. Ahead of the walkers and guides was a 10 hour marathon hill-walk in the beautiful Hills of South West Donegal.
The aim of this Sponsored Hill-Walk is to raise funds for People with Special Needs in County Donegal. The Bluestack Mountains are known as the 'Jewel in The Crown' of the Donegal Mountains. Said to be over 600 million years old, this rugged mountain range is quite remote, offering walkers rare glimpses of a still unspoiled landscape, possibily part of the last wilderness in Europe. Safety is the key element of this event, and the local Civil Defence group and Donegal Mountain Rescue provided their support. This event is an example of a community in action. Local community centres in Drimarone and Townawilly contributed materials to make sure the after walk event ran smoothly. As usual walkers, guides, van drivers, Gardai, Army, Local Business, Land Owners, Voluntary groups and individuals threw their weight behind the project to ensure a successfull outcome. Our Sponsors, Harvey's Point Country Hotel provided an excellent meal to all who participated or helped in any way. You can do your bit by clicking the Sponsor a Walker link and donating via Pay Pal. Alternatively use the bank account details provided to make electronic donations or donations through your usual method of banking. |

The 400 or so walkers were guided by local Hill-Walking group - The Bluestack Ramblers. The Bluestack Ramblers Lead Guide this year was Geraldine Carty, sister of Noel Cunningham and an experienced Hill-Walker.
